Packers: Kenny Clark practices for second straight day on Friday
The Packers could get Kenny Clark back in Week 3.
Davante Adams not practicing all week is concerning for his availability this week, but the Green Bay Packers have some more positive news with star defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
According to Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Clark practiced on Friday. This is notable as Clark had returned to practice on Thursday, and this likely means he didn’t suffer any setbacks on his return to practice.
Whether this means Clark will be ready to go on Sunday night against the New Orleans Saints remains to seen — we’ll get a better idea when the injury report is released later today — but the fact he has put together back-to-back practices is certainly an encouraging sign.
Clark is such an important part of the Packers defense and it would be a huge boost if he’s able to return this week. Clark suffered a groin injury in the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings and didn’t play last week against the Detroit Lions as a result.
Not only would Clark help strengthen a run defense that has been anything but dominant in the first two weeks, but his interior pass rush is just what the Packers need up against a Hall-of-Fame quarterback in Drew Brees.
Brees hasn’t been at his best this season so far and didn’t put in a good performance in New Orleans’ loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. With Clark able to give the Packers some more interior pressure, it could be just what this defense needs to force Brees to hurry and potentially lead to a couple of mistakes. It’s exactly what happened on Brees’ interception last week.
We’ll find out Clark’s game status later in the day. There’s a good chance he’ll be listed as questionable for Week 3, which would leave his status up in the air.
