2. Packers tight ends

Stat line: 9 catches, 104 yards, 2 TDs

One thing Coach LaFleur has shown on this young season he did not show very much last year was the use of his tight ends.

Maybe it was because of the personnel they had last year or maybe it’s just getting more into the system and playbook. LaFleur has used multiple tight ends more in this young season than I can remember at any time last year.

And it’s paying dividends.

Robert Tonyan, Jace Sternberger, and Marcedes Lewis all contributed in big ways Sunday night.

Tonyan led the way with five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown, followed by Sternberger’s three catches for 36 yards. The veteran of the group, Lewis, only had one catch but it was a big one for a touchdown.

This group of tight ends has a variety of skills and will only get deeper once H-back Josiah Deguara makes his way back from injury.

The best thing about this group is they are not giving anything away based on who’s in the lineup. All are willing blockers and capable receivers.

Lewis’ best days may be behind him but he still can, and does, play a valuable role on this team.

Tonyan, Sternberger, and Degura are young and have a lot of football ahead of them. The team may not need a Pro Bowler out of this group if they can continue to play the way they did on Sunday night; that collective effort provides more than enough production.
