Stock up: Robert Tonyan

Speaking of addition by subtraction. The Packers could not have gotten rid of Jimmy Graham fast enough. I don’t care what kind of numbers he’s putting up with the Chicago Bears. He clearly didn’t fit with the Packers offense.

Entering this year, Jace Sternberger was supposed to be the guy. He was going to be a big part of this offense and put up some nice numbers.

Nope.

Starting on the COVID-19 list wasn’t a great start to camp. On top of that, he couldn’t catch the ball against Detroit, which is something you need to do with Aaron Rodgers. Robert Tonyan, on the other hand, has taken advantage of his opportunities, especially on Sunday night.

Tonyan caught five passes for 50 yards and a touchdown against the Saints. Sternberger caught three passes for 36 yards while ‘Big Dog’ Marcedes Lewis caught one lone pass for 18 yards and a score.

On the season, Tonyan leads the tight end group in receptions (eight), yards (75), and touchdowns (two). I think Tonyan is going to make it very hard for Sternberger to take some of his snaps away with the way he’s been playing lately.

Sternberger got a lot of love this offseason, but it may be time to jump on the Tonyan bandwagon.
