Packers: Five standout performances from Week 4 win vs. Falcons
By Jesse Fry
1. Robert Tonyan
Stat line: 6 catches, 98 yds, 3 TDs
With Davante Adams and Allen Lazard out, someone was going to have to step up and fill the void.
That person was Robert Tonyan. The former wide receiver and quarterback out of Indiana State had a coming-out party of sorts, scoring three touchdowns on the way to his career day.
Tonyan was already starting to make some noise for the Packers coming into this game. He scored in two straight games and looked primed for this type of performance.
He did not disappoint.
For the third consecutive week, he scored a touchdown and is now, believe it to not, tied atop of the NFL lead with five touchdowns.
Even the Falcons’ star middle linebacker, Deion Jones, couldn’t keep up with Tonyan on this night.
If Tonyan can stay on this course, he can give the Packers something they haven’t had since Jermichael Finley was in the prime of his career. Tonyan can stress the seam, provide a large target in the middle of the field as well as the red zone, and most of all, give opposing defenses yet another weapon to plan for.
Early on, you could see the talent was there with Tonyan. Now it appears his talent is starting to meet skill. Tonyan took full advantage of his opportunity, now I look for him to become a consistent weapon.
