Packers defense continues to look bad

Dud #2: The defense

I honestly couldn’t single out just one player. A lot of the blame can go on Mike Pettine for sure but the players can be just as much at fault for their poor performance this year. The regression from last season to me at least has been quite a surprise.

The Smith Bros. have been very underwhelming so far. Preston Smith, in particular, has done next to nothing this season and has been drawing comparisons to former Packer Nick Perry. Preston, of course, has time to turn it around still this season but his play has left more to be desired.

Za’Darius Smith has been better than his Smith bro counterpart but has definitely not been as good as last year. He does have five sacks this season but his pressure rate has fallen way down.

What made the Packers defense good last year was that they pressured the opposing team’s QB and forced turnovers. The Packers have struggled to do both of those this season which has exposed the rest of the defense.

The Packers are always known as a defense that gives up yards and this year has been no different. The Packers got a grand total of zero sacks and only four QB hits. This is inexcusable for the capital they have invested in this pass rush.
