The Packers could look for some receiving help.

Like last year, the Green Bay Packers could be in the market for wide receiver help before the trade deadline.

We’ve seen the Packers offense at their very best and their very worst in the opening five games. They are fine with the receivers currently on the roster, but it’s never a bad idea to add more talent when an opportunity presents itself.

Ahead of the trade deadline in less than two weeks, the Packers are “calling around” as they look for some potential receiver help, according to Aaron Nagler of Cheesehead TV.

This doesn’t mean they’ll add a receiver before the deadline. As Nagler points out, they were in for Robby Anderson last season but didn’t agree on a deal.

There could be a few opportunities for the Packers to get some help on offense.

Potential targets for Packers before trade deadline

This time of year, there are already many teams around the NFL thinking ahead to next season and beyond. They are the teams who might be willing to give away a talented wide receiver before the deadline, adding draft picks for the future.

Teams such as the New York Jets, New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, and Atlanta Falcons come to mind.

From those four teams alone, there are potential targets at wide receiver.

Would the Jets be willing to trade away Jamison Crowder? Crowder would be a great fit in Matt LaFleur’s offense and has started the season strong with three 100-yard performances in the four games he’s played.

How about Golden Tate from the Giants, or either John Ross or A.J. Green from the Bengals?

It’s important to take each player’s current contract into consideration. For example, Green is a free agent at the end of the season which would help the Packers long-term, but his cap hit this year is $18.17 million, according to Spotrac. And considering Green hasn’t been consistent this season, the Packers should probably avoid trading for him.

For the Falcons, could a trade for Julio Jones be possible? There are rumors the Falcons could look to trade away both Jones and Matt Ryan before the deadline.

Jones’ huge contract would make this challenging for the Packers, so we can almost certainly assume it won’t happen. However, if GM Brian Gutekunst could find a way to make it work, there would definitely be a ton of upside for both teams.

The Falcons are likely going to hit the reset button this offseason. Julio is 31, and by the time they are ready to compete again, he’ll be closer to his mid-30s. For the Packers, they’d be adding an All-Pro talent to pair with Davante Adams, forming a potentially historically-great receiving duo. When healthy, Jones is still one of the best in the game.

Incredibly unlikely, but it’s sure fun to imagine that scenario.

Do you think the Packers should trade for a receiver?
