Packers: Five standout performances from Week 7 win vs. Texans
By Jesse Fry
3. Krys Barnes
Stat line: 8 tackles, 1 sack
The amazing story of Krys Barnes has highlighted the early feel-good headlines for the Packers in 2020.
Since becoming the head man in the middle, Barnes has been flying all over the field making tackles and building a resume for himself moving forward.
Sunday’s game against the Texans was no different. Barnes spent the first half of the game making tackle after tackle and picking up his first sack in the process. Together with Kamal Martin, the duo gave the Packers a glimpse into what could be a very athletic middle of their defense.
Then on the first play of the second half, Barnes went down with a shoulder injury and did not return.
Considering the large lead, that could have been the team exercising a bit of caution. That would be my hope, but we probably won’t know thew answer for sure till later in the week. Even with missing the second half of the game, Barnes still finished as the Packers’ leader in tackles against the Texans.
Barnes excelling this season could make Christian Kirksey expendable at the end of the season and save the Packers a little bit of money. He’s off to a great start and should only get better. The brief glimpses we got with him and Martin together was very exciting. Here’s to hoping we don’t have to wait long for our next view.
