Packers: Three duds from Week 8 loss against Vikings
By Cody Young
Za’Darius and Preston Smith were once again held in check on Sunday
Dud #2: The Smith Bros.
The Smith Bros were phenomenal in 2019. They both had double-digit sacks while getting to the QB with ease, but 2020 has been an entirely different story. The Packers as a whole are pressuring at a much lower rate than they were in 2019, and the Smiths are at the forefront of this issue.
Za’Darius Smith has at least been able to get to the QB a little bit, getting six sacks this season, which is tied for third in the league. Preston Smith has been downright bad all year and Sunday was no different.
Preston registered three tackles against the Vikings and was able to do nothing else. The veteran pass rusher has had a really poor year. Preston Smith has only has had half a sack through seven games in 2020.
The pass rush as a whole had a very underwhelming game, getting one sack and one QB hit all game. These are pathetic numbers for what Green Bay has invested in their defensive line and the Smith’s as the leaders really need to start producing.
I feel that Za’Darius will most certainly be on the team next season but Preston could absolutely find himself as a cap casualty if his poor play continues.
