Packers: Position report card grades halfway through 2020 season
Quarterbacks: A+
MVP Aaron Rodgers has returned.
His numbers through eight games are better than at the same stage of the 2014 season, which is when he won his second NFL MVP award. Outside of a disappointing performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rodgers has been simply phenomenal.
After eight games, he’s thrown for 2,253 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. On this pace, he’ll set a new career-high in touchdowns.
Playing in rhythm and looking at ease in Matt LaFleur’s system, Rodgers continues to light up defenses and show why he’s still one of the best passers in the game. Along with Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes, Rodgers is right there in the MVP conversation at midseason.
Running backs: A
Rodgers has been backed up by some excellent play from the running backs.
We heard all offseason about how Aaron Jones’ touchdown numbers would drop, but that’s proving to be far from reality with Jones finding the end zone seven times in the six games he’s played. Despite missing two games through injury, Jones is still on pace for over 1,000 yards.
In his absence, Jamaal Williams stepped up and made an impact. On the season, Williams has 447 total yards and a touchdown.
With rookie AJ Dillon giving this group even more talent, the Packers have one of the league’s deepest running back groups.
