Packers likely to be without Jaire Alexander in Week 10
Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander will likely be out this week.
The Green Bay Packers will likely take on the Jacksonville Jaguars without star cornerback Jaire Alexander this weekend.
Alexander left last week’s win over the San Francisco 49ers with a concussion and is now expected to miss Sunday’s game. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Alexander will be listed as doubtful to play on the injury report.
This is obviously bad news for the secondary as Alexander has been playing at an All-Pro level all season. He’d have likely covered D.J. Chark for much of the game.
It’s still unclear whether Kevin King will be ready to make his return from a quad injury that has kept him out of four games. King was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday and Thursday so it seems he could again be a game-time decision.
If Alexander and King are both out, the Packers’ top three cornerbacks will be Chandon Sullivan, Josh Jackson, and Ka’dar Hollman this week.
That’s obviously not ideal, but this also isn’t the toughest matchup the Packers will face between now and the end of the season.
The Jaguars have ruled out starting quarterback Gardner Minshew and talented rookie wide receiver Laviska Shenault.
It will be important for the Packers’ pass rushers to contribute in this game to help out a secondary hit with injuries. Rookie quarterback Jake Luton will be playing in just his second NFL game on Sunday, so if the pass rush can create consistent pressure, Luton’s inexperience could show and lead to some opportunities for turnovers.
The injury report will be released later today. And while “doubtful” doesn’t guarantee Alexander is out this week, it would take a lot for him to be cleared in time to play, it seems.
The team could be without a few starters in the secondary this week against the Jaguars.
