San Francisco 49ers (at Rams)

At this stage, it’s worth rooting against every NFC West team outside of the San Francisco 49ers. The Los Angeles Rams are the current division-leaders but are tied with the Seattle Seahawks and just a game ahead of the Arizona Cardinals. It’s entirely possible the Packers will win the NFC North and the Rams have to settle for a wild-card berth in the West, making this matchup less important.

However, as things stand, the Rams are just ahead of the Packers in the NFC standings on a tiebreaker. The 49ers are unlikely to reach the playoffs but can provide some tough competition for the playoff contenders they meet along the way.

The Rams still have to play the Seahawks again and the Cardinals twice, so the NFC West teams could continue to take wins off each other. From a Packers perspective, just root for whoever is playing against them.

It doesn’t matter which team wins the NFC West — all three contenders would provide tough competition in the playoffs — Green Bay just needs to win the NFC North and finish ahead of the eventual NFC West winner to ensure a better playoff seeding. The Rams are in pole position so root against them this week.
