Packers: Four players whose future will be determined in final five games
Four Packers with a lot to prove in final five games.
The upcoming offseason will be a challenge for every team and the Green Bay Packers are no exception.
With a reduced salary cap a possibility, for many teams, the offseason will be more about getting under the salary cap than being able to spend big in free agency. The Packers have already re-signed David Bakhtiari and Kenny Clark but have some big decisions ahead in the coming months.
They could have to move on from players who are under contract in 2021. For that reason, putting in a strong performance between now and the end of the season will be important for many players.
Today, we’ll look at four players who need a strong finish to the year.
JK Scott
The wildly inconsistent play of JK Scott has continued this season and it’s a cause for concern.
Scott currently ranks 21st in the NFL for punting yards average this year, and returners are averaging 15.2 yards per return from Scott’s punts, second-most in the league.
Scott has the talent to completely flip field position with a huge punt — his longest on the year is 62 yards — but too often he makes mistakes. Against the Indianapolis Colts, Scott had two punts go less than 40 yards.
In tough conditions against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Scott had punts of 30 and 37 yards. He also had a punt returned for a touchdown. The conditions were challenging, but that’s to be expected in Green Bay.
The Packers could make a change at punter next season, but Scott can change that with a strong final five games.
