Packers up to second in NFC after Seahawks loss in Week 13
The Packers are up to second in the NFC after Week 13.
Job number one was for the Green Bay Packers to take care of business at Lambeau Field.
They achieved that with victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. By doing so, they maintained their big advantage in the NFC North and took a step closer to retaining the division title and securing a playoff berth.
However, getting some help along the way helped make this an even better weekend for the Packers.
Earlier this week, I wrote about a few teams Packers fans should root for in Week 13. While they didn’t all help out, the New York Giants came through with a surprise victory over the Seattle Seahawks. New York held on for a 17-12 win over Seattle.
With the Los Angeles Rams defeating the Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks are now out of first place of the NFC West. More importantly, they drop down out of second position in the NFC.
Green Bay and Seattle entered Week 13 tied with an 8-3 record but the Seahawks held the tiebreaker.
This result changes that. The Packers are now the NFC’s second seed with a 9-3 record, a game ahead of the new NFC West leaders, the Rams, who are 8-4.
If the season ended today, the New Orleans Saints would earn the NFC’s only first-round bye; they are currently a game ahead of the Packers. Green Bay would enter the postseason as the number two seed in the NFC and would host the Minnesota Vikings in the first round.
With an overtime victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Vikings jumped ahead of the Cardinals into the seventh seed on Sunday.
The Packers can secure a playoff berth as early as next week. A win over the Detroit Lions and Vikings loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would mean the NFC North title is won.
Until then, we can enjoy a Packers win and Seahawks loss.
