Packers: Three winners from Week 13 win over Eagles
By Cody Young
The Packers may have found themselves a gem in Martin
Winner #2: Kamal Martin
The Green Bay Packers drafted Kamal Martin in the fifth round of this past draft. No matter how you feel about how Green Bay used their picks in April, there is no denying that they found a legit player in Martin.
After starting the year on the injured reserve, Martin quickly showed once he came back what the Packers saw in him. Kamal turned in another good performance against the Eagles on Sunday. He was getting into the backfield with ease in his limited time on the field.
I personally think it may be time for Martin to start taking away some of Christian Kirksey’s snaps. Martin can be beaten in pass coverage but has shown great burst in the run game throughout his rookie campaign.
Injuries have plagued Martin during his rookie year as well as mental mistakes here and there. The mistakes will probably get cleaned up over the course of his career but the health seems like it may be an issue with the young LB.
Kirksey will most likely be off of the team next season and the Packers will probably move forward with Martin and Krys Barnes as their men in the middle over the next few years. It will be interesting to see the development of both players with a full offseason after 2020.
