3. Special teams

To put it very bluntly, Green Bay has not been good on special teams, especially punt return coverage. They have given up two return touchdowns and were a penalty away from giving up a long return against the Eagles.

This has to stop.

While only a small portion of the entire team, special teams mistakes can loom large in games. If Detroit can keep the game close, special teams could be the difference between winning and losing.

That will be even more true come playoff time.

Jamal Agnew isn’t the same type of returner Keelan Cole or Jalen Reagor is but he is good enough and could play a big role if Shawn Mennenga can’t get his coverage units figured out.

Some of the blame also falls at the feet of punter JK Scott. He was mainly to blame on the return against the Eagles as he out-kicked his coverage and put the ball on the wrong side of the field. He compounded his mistake by failing to make the tackle or even slow down Reagor.

Inside a dome and with no weather to worry about, Scott will have no excuse for his punts.

Scott needs to hit his hang-time goals and definitely needs to kick the ball where his coverage is going to be.
