3. Packers control their destiny

The Packers knew that by winning out, they’d need the New Orleans Saints to slip up just once. The most likely opportunity for that would be in Week 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but it happened even earlier than that. The Saints surprisingly lost to the Philadelphia Eagles this week, allowing the Packers to take over first place of the NFC.

The NFC North title is already in the bag. Now Matt LaFleur’s team has the opportunity to close out the regular season strong and earn the conference’s top seed for the first time since 2011. And that could be crucial. From this season, only the top-seeded team receives a week off in the first round of the playoffs.

The chance to get a week of rest then potentially host two games at Lambeau Field for the chance to play in the Super Bowl is too great for this team to miss. Standing in their way are the Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans, and Chicago Bears. Win all three and the top seed is the Packers’. Lose one, and they’ll need some help.

LaFleur couldn’t ask for any more after Week 14. Playoffs are secured. The division is in the bag. The NFC’s top seed? It’s the Packers’ if they can run the table.
