Packers QB Aaron Rodgers should lead the MVP race.

The NFL MVP race is as close as we’ve seen in recent memory. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes are both having incredible seasons, but the Green Bay Packers‘ star quarterback should be leading the way.

Once considered a three-way race between Rodgers, Mahomes, and Russell Wilson, it’s fair to rule out the Seattle Seahawks’ QB at this point. Wilson has thrown for the same number of yards as Rodgers but fewer than Mahomes. Most importantly, he’s been intercepted more times (12) than the other two combined (nine).

You can make a strong case for either Rodgers or Mahomes winning the award based on the 13 games played so far.

Both QBs lead the league’s two best offenses. Kansas City has the advantage in total yards per game, Green Bay wins in points per game. Either way, they are the top two teams in both categories.

The Chiefs are 12-1. The Packers 10-3. Both teams have already won their division, lead their conference, and are very much Super Bowl contenders.

Statistically, how do the two QBs compare?

Mahomes has more passing yards (4,208) than Rodgers (3,685), but the two-time league MVP leads in many other categories.

Rodgers has attempted fewer passers but completed a higher percentage (69.6 to 68.4). And despite throwing less often, Rodgers has more touchdown passes (39 to 33). He also has fewer interceptions (four to five).

Finally, Rodgers also has the advantage in passer rating (119.7 to 112.3).

Potential Super Bowl matchup?

No matter who wins the NFL MVP award (and who knows, maybe it will be shared), we can all agree Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes have been the standout quarterbacks in the league this season. The two have similar styles, are fun to watch, and are lighting up defenses.

They also lead teams currently on track to secure a week off and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. Maybe, just maybe, it will lead to two heavyweight offenses colliding in the Super Bowl.

Can the Packers defense stop the Chiefs’ offense? I highly doubt it. The same goes the other way.

It sure would be fun to watch.
