5 things on the Packers’ Christmas gift list in 2020 season
2. A third MVP for Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers has been on fire this season and he’s on track to set a new career-best in passing touchdowns. It’s a two-way race between Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes, who is also having another excellent season for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Right now, it’s too tough to call. But Packers fans would sure love to see a third MVP award under the tree for Rodgers this year.
In Saturday’s win over the Carolina Panthers, Rodgers became the first player in NFL history to throw for 40 touchdowns in three different seasons. And to make it all the more impressive, he hit the 40-touchdown milestone with only four interceptions on the year. That’s unheard of.
Almost any year, to throw 40 touchdowns with four interceptions inside the opening 14 games would have analysts believing the MVP race is over. Rodgers’ name would already be on the award. But this year you can make a strong case for both Rodgers and Mahomes to be named the MVP.
The final two games will be key. Can Rodgers break his own career-record of 45 touchdown passes? How close to 50 can he get?
It’s tough to call this year’s MVP race, but it would be great to see Rodgers become a three-time winner of the award.
