Packers: 3 bold predictions for Week 16 game vs. Titans
2. A.J. Brown doesn’t have a single catch
Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander isn’t always asked to shadow the opponent’s number one wide receiver, but this would be a good week to do so. While Corey Davis has been great this season and has more receiving yards than A.J. Brown, it’s Brown who should scare this Packers defense the most.
Since returning from an injury early in the season, Brown has been incredible for the Titans. This season, he’s caught 56 passes for 881 yards and 10 touchdowns. Covering Davis will also be a challenge for the Packers, but Mike Pettine should have Alexander follow Brown often in this game.
And we’ve seen Alexander have tremendous success covering some of the best receivers in the game this year.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Alexander shadowed Calvin Ridley on 85 percent of his routes when the Packers played the Atlanta Falcons. Ridley didn’t have a catch all game. He shadowed Mike Evans on 79 percent of his routes, also according to NFL Next Gen Stats. The result? No catches.
Brown is one of the best young receivers in football and already has 18 touchdown catches in his first 28 games in the league.
But if Alexander is shadowing him in this game, Brown could have his toughest test of the season.
