Packers: It’s time for AJ Dillon to shine with Jamaal Williams out
AJ Dillon should see a bigger role for the Packers offense in Week 16.
AJ Dillon is the Green Bay Packers‘ future at running back.
The fact they invested a second-round pick to bring him to Green Bay shows that. Now he will get a chance to prove that on Sunday night against the Tennessee Titans.
With Jamaal Williams listed as doubtful to play on the injury report, Dillon should be in line for more snaps this weekend.
Dillon has seen a limited role, even last week when Williams left the game, as he’s only recently returned from the reserve/COVID-19 list. But hopefully he’s ready to take on a bigger role this week.
With both Aaron Jones and Williams set to hit free agency in the spring, there’s a real possibility Dillon could enter 2021 as the Packers’ starting running back. If Matt LaFleur gives him more carries in tonight’s game, it will be opportunities like this one for him to show why he’s ready to make that jump.
In limited game action, Dillon has made some impressive plays. He took his only carry for 18 yards on an impressive run against the Carolina Panthers last week. Even on one play, Dillon showed his ability to break tackles and be a powerful running back for this offense.
If Dillon is given an expanded role on Sunday night, it’ll be interesting to see the plan for how to use him. He’s averaging an impressive 4.8 yards per carry in a limited role this year, but he’s only had one target in the passing game (which he caught for 16 yards).
But with Williams likely out this week, Dillon needs to make the most of his opportunity. Not only can he prove he should be the starter next season, but he can also earn more snaps in this offense heading into the playoffs.
Dillon will be a player to watch against the Titans.
