Packers: Three winners from Week 16 victory over Titans
By Cody Young
Darnell Savage was great for the Packers on Sunday
Winner #3: Darnell Savage
Darnell Savage has had a fantastic sophomore season, already building upon a promising rookie year. Savage grabbed his fourth interception of the season on Sunday night. This puts him tied for fifth in the NFL in total.
Savage had a bit of a slow start to 2020. He was missing tackles and getting beat by opposing team’s wide receivers. You can argue this was due to not having an offseason but Savage has been very consistent over the second half of the season.
Savage may be best known for his ball-hawking ability but he can be an all-around defensive player at times as well. His ability to get to the QB can be an underrated part of his game, as he showed in the first quarter of the Titans game.
The Packers have lacked a true ball-hawk since the days of Nick Collins. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix showed promise at times but I think Savage may end up as the safety that the Packers have been looking for all these years. The former first-round pick has taken his play to another level in 2020 and has been one of the best pieces of a great secondary.
Darnell can really put his stamp on this season with another good outing against Chicago in Week 17, and then possibly even more with strong playoff games.
