After leading the Packers in interceptions a season ago, Kevin King hasn’t been able to consistently reach that level of play again this year. King has been inconsistent in his fourth season with the Packers while also missing five games through injury.

King has played in 11 games this season, starting all of them, with five pass defenses and 57 tackles. He doesn’t have an interception but did force a fumble and recovered another.

There’s always a demand for starting cornerbacks around the league so King should have no trouble landing a new deal, but it might not be with the Packers.

If Brian Gutekunst and Russ Ball are able to make some cap room ahead of free agency, they may opt to offer a new deal to either Corey Linsley or Aaron Jones.

The problem for the Packers is that if they don’t re-sign King, who would be the starting cornerback opposite Jaire Alexander next season? Josh Jackson filled in when King was injured but has often been a healthy scratch late in the year.

Cornerback might be the Packers’ top priority in the offseason either in free agency, the draft, or both.

King will be a starter in the secondary during the playoffs, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll be back in 2021.
