Packers: Five major players who could be playing their final snaps
Aaron Jones
This might be one of the toughest decisions the Packers face this offseason. Will they re-sign Aaron Jones?
Jones is one of the best running backs in football, but with limited cap room, the Packers would need to make a number of moves to be able to free up the money needed to re-sign Jones.
But given how important he is to this offense, it’s a move Brian Gutekunst might have no choice but to make.
Over the past two seasons, Jones has rushed for 2,188 yards and 25 touchdowns, while also adding 829 receiving yards with five touchdowns. They are incredible numbers and highlight exactly what he brings to this offense. Especially impressive when considering he often hasn’t been given more than 15 carries in a game.
Jones averaged 5.5 yards per carry this season, a number he’s hit in three out of his four seasons. He’s also a great receiver out of the backfield.
Perhaps’ Jones’ playoff performances will determine his future. He can be an X-factor for the Packers in a Super Bowl run. If he dominates in the postseason, how can the Packers not bring him back? At the same time, the better he performs in January, the harder it will become to re-sign him.
This won’t be an easy choice for Gutekunst.
