Packers: Three bold predictions vs. Rams in divisional round
By Nile McNair
Three bold predictions for the Packers in the divisional round.
In the first divisional game of the NFL playoffs, the Green Bay Packers will match up against the Los Angeles Rams. This will be Green Bay’s first playoff game as they had a bye last week. Meanwhile, the Rams are coming off a wild-card upset of the Seattle Seahawks last weekend.
With a win, Green Bay would move on to play in their second consecutive NFC Championship Game. For Los Angeles, a win would advance them to a second NFC title game appearance in the last three seasons.
Here are three bold predictions for the Packers in this NFC divisional round matchup against the Rams.
Davante Adams puts up over 100 yards
The biggest individual matchup of this game is Jalen Ramsey versus Davante Adams. Both players were named first-team All-Pros and had career-years in their respective ways.
Adams led the league in touchdown receptions and receiving yards per game. Not to mention, Adams was top-five in receptions and receiving yards this season.
On the other side, Ramsey made evident that he was the best cornerback in the NFL. Throughout the season, Ramsey put some of the best receivers in the NFL on lockdown.
Here are some elite receivers’ stats against Ramsey this season:
For this bold prediction, Adams will make it look easy against Ramsey. Expect Adams to have over 100 yards receiving and catch at least one touchdown pass on Ramsey.
Packers force four turnovers
Another big storyline heading into this game surrounds Rams quarterback Jared Goff. Back in Week 16, Goff suffered a thumb injury and is still recovering from the surgery he had afterward.
During the wild-card game against the Seahawks, Goff looked pedestrian. Goff had under 200 yards passing, one touchdown pass and a 47 percent completion percentage.
Overall, this season Goff has been inconsistent and turnover prone. Goff ranked third in the NFL with 13 interceptions and had seven total fumbles this season.
This is the perfect game for the Packers defense to create game-changing turnovers. Green Bay ranked 25th in takeaways this season, but I predict that against the Rams they’ll force a season-high four turnovers.
Green Bay wins by three scores
One of the biggest differences between Green Bay this year compared to last, is they’re more dominant. Last year, the Packers finished with just a three-point average margin of victory. In comparison, the Packers’ margin of victory this season is nine points.
Furthermore, the Packers have a league-leading 12-point margin of victory at home and won their last two regular season games by an average of 22 points per game.
With the Packers being winners of six straight, I predict they will start fast and never surrender their early lead. Also, the Rams have some injury issues that may prevent them from playing at their full capability.
I predict the Packers to win this game by three scores and keep their current momentum heading into the NFC Championship Game.
