Packers: 3 potential landing spots for Aaron Jones in free agency
By Cody Young
The 49ers make a lot of sense for Aaron Jones
Team #1: San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are in an interesting position right now. They have a well-constructed roster. When at their best they play elite defense and can pound the ball down your throat, something Packers fans are very familiar with.
The 49ers have been linked to the QB position pretty heavily this offseason, as that is their one true weakness. However, they have some big names coming off their books and will have some money to play around with.
The team has two running backs in Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon heading into free agency. They also have veterans Trent Williams and Richard Sherman with expiring contracts as well. They do have Raheem Mostert under contract until 2022 but he has quite the injury history himself.
It will be interesting to see if they can get a deal done but the fit would be a great one. Matt LaFleur’s offense is very similar to Kyle Shanahan’s so Jones would be able to slot right in pretty nicely.
Shanahan also loves to move his backs and tight ends all over the field which is something Jones is already pretty comfortable with. Throughout 2019 and 2020 Jones has lined up in the slot, outside, and the backfield many times.
