Packers: Three affordable free agents to target in 2021
The Green Bay Packers aren’t going to be big spenders this year in free agency. I know, hot take, right?
Long considered one of the top landing spots for J.J. Watt, the deal he signed with the Arizona Cardinals showed the Packers probably never had a realistic shot. They couldn’t compete financially. And, unfortunately, this will often be the case when it comes to the biggest names hitting free agency later this month.
However, assuming the Packers don’t just get under the salary cap but also free up a little bit of room, there will be moves to be made. It could come from offering one-year deals to players who will be cap casualties elsewhere, or simply waiting a while in free agency before making moves. The Packers can be active even if they don’t spend big, as we saw last offseason.
For that to work, general manager Brian Gutekunst will need to be on the lookout for some bargains. Given the unusual circumstances with the salary cap likely being lowered, it could mean players will sign for less than they otherwise would.
Which affordable moves could the Packers make in free agency? Here are three players they should consider signing this offseason.
