The Packers have overlooked the inside linebacker position for far too long. But with the departure of veteran Christian Kirksey, along with the hiring of former linebackers coach Joe Barry as defensive coordinator, maybe that’ll change this offseason.

While Krys Barnes and Kamal Martin both showed potential in their rookie seasons, adding an experienced linebacker like K.J. Wright could make a huge difference for this defense.

Wright will turn 32 before the season begins but he still has a lot to offer. A former Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro, Wright has been a key part of many strong Seahawks defenses over the years.

Not only would Wright add leadership and experience to Green Bay’s defense, he’d also be far and away the team’s best inside linebacker. In the past two seasons, Wright has made 218 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, two sacks, four interceptions, and 21 pass defenses.

Barnes and Martin would be able to learn from Wright which would help their development, while the Packers would have a strong trio at the inside linebacker position.

Green Bay’s defense has the potential to improve under Barry next season. What would help would be adding another leader and experienced player. Wright could be a great addition to the Packers defense.
