2. AJ Dillon

Maybe Aaron Jones’ replacement is already on the roster. It’s entirely possible the Packers don’t think they need to sign a free agent running back or use an early-round draft pick at the position. They drafted AJ Dillon in the second round last spring and it’s possible he’ll be the featured back in 2021.

That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t look for some depth in free agency or the draft, but we’re talking about a replacement for Jones. Could Dillon be the choice?

Dillon didn’t get too many opportunities in his rookie season but he impressed when he was on the field, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. His 21-carry, 124-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Tennessee Titans was a great audition to show he’s capable of taking on an increased role next season. The only time the Packers needed him to take on the bulk of the carries, he delivered.

Can Dillon take the next step as a receiver? Can he improve his blocking? Both will be key to determining what his role will be in 2021.

But Dillon was a second-round draft choice and played well as a rookie. If Jones isn’t re-signed, Dillon could be the top choice to start the 2021 season as Green Bay’s featured back.
