As we’ve seen this offseason, it’s impossible to keep everyone in free agency. The Green Bay Packers have had to watch a number of talented players depart in recent years, and many of them have gone on to have success elsewhere.

The 2021 offseason has been a different one to usual with many veteran players being released for teams to save money. A lower salary cap has meant that teams need to free up cap room they hadn’t anticipated when signing some of the contracts in previous offseasons.

There are a number of talented players still available, and that includes some notable former Packers players.

Mike Pennel, DT

Mike Pennel played 37 games with the Packers after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2014. After three seasons, Green Bay moved on and Pennel would sign with the New York Jets.

Since then, Pennel went onto become a Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he has spent the past two seasons.

Pennel made a huge play in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory a couple of seasons ago. He hit Jimmy Garoppolo as he attempted a pass, forcing it wide and into the hands of another former Packer, cornerback Bashaud Breeland.

With help needed along the defensive line, re-signing Pennel wouldn’t be a bad move for the Packers.
