CB. Green Bay Packers. Greg Newsome II. 1. player. 49.

The Packers had to give up a third-round pick to make this happen, but it’s well worth it to get cornerback Greg Newsome II.

If they sit and wait until No. 29 overall, they run the risk of missing out on the top cornerbacks in the class. But by being aggressive and trading up, they land Newsome, who could be a great player at the next level and a perfect partner for Jaire Alexander.

According to Pro Football Focus, Newsome was the only Power Five cornerback to see 30 targets in his coverage last season but allow fewer than 100 yards. He’s the only one out of 123 cornerbacks to achieve that.

Newsome has the talent to quickly make an impact in the Packers’ defense. Even if he does take a little time to adjust to the NFL game, Green Bay can roll with Kevin King as the starter to begin the season until Newsome is ready to take over the job and start opposite Alexander.

Cory Kinnan of With the First Pick wrote a great article on Newsome’s fit in Green Bay’s defense. He added that if he’s there at No. 29, Newsome could be an “ideal match” for the Packers “to give themselves the best cornerback duo in the league.”

I’m not risking waiting until No. 29. I’m trading up for Newsome to give Green Bay an exciting, young cornerback pairing.
