The Green Bay Packers dominated last season, leading the NFL in scoring as Aaron Rodgers secured his third NFL MVP award while he was joined by three other offensive teammates as first-team All-Pros.

However, like a year ago, wide receiver is considered among the Packers’ top needs this offseason. Despite Davante Adams’ dominance, an argument can certainly be made that more consistency is needed at receiver alongside Adams.

It’s also not surprising given it’s been six years since Green Bay last drafted a receiver in the top three rounds. That was Ty Montgomery, who transitioned to running back and is no longer on the team.

A recent mock draft by Brad Weiss of FanSided not only sees the Packers finally use an early pick at wide receiver, but this one is in the first round. With the 29th overall pick, the Packers select LSU’s Terrace Marshall Jr.

Marshall would help the Packers’ high-scoring offense add even more points. He’s been particularly effective in the red zone in recent years. According to Pro Football Focus, Marshall has a reception percentage of 68 percent when targeted in the end zone since 2019, highest in this year’s class.

In total, Marshall has caught 23 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah believes Marshall has the potential to become a “solid No. 2 receiver in the NFL”. As long as Adams is still in Green Bay, that’s all this offense needs.

A year ago, wide receiver was absolutely a need for the Packers. They signed Devin Funchess. Brian Gutekunst later said that many of the receivers they graded highly were gone before they hit the clock. Had the board fallen differently, there’s a good chance Green Bay would’ve gone receiver early.

Even with the performance of the offense last season, receiver should be on the Packers’ radar again. Perhaps Marshall will be the answer in the first round.
