Packers blockbuster trade shakes up 2021 four-round mock draft
It’s time for the Green Bay Packers to go all-in.
The time to win a championship is now. The salary cap limited their ability to be aggressive in free agency, although the Packers were able to bring back Aaron Jones. Their aim was to keep as much of their NFC runners-up roster together as possible.
In this four-round mock draft, it’s time to focus on the now. The Packers address multiple positions of need and pull off a blockbuster trade to land a top-15 prospect.
To create this mock, I used Pro Football Focus’ mock draft simulator.
The trade
Remember in 2018 when the Packers traded down from the middle to the bottom of the first round, receiving a future first-round pick in return? Here, they pull off a mirror of that trade. This time, they’re the team to jump up the draft board, sacrificing a 2022 first-round pick to go all-in for the current season.
It’s a sign of intent from general manager Brian Gutekunst who shows it’s time to win a championship, and trading up to No. 15 overall to select a player who can make an immediate difference is a step towards achieving that.
The rebuilding New England Patriots bring back a fourth-round pick this year, while also receiving two first-rounders from the Packers, one in 2022.
