During the Ted Thompson era, the likelihood of the Green Bay Packers trading up was always pretty low. Now, with Brian Gutekunst is in charge, he’s shown a willingness to trade up for players he wants to get.

Last season, a lot of Packer fans wanted Green Bay to trade up for a receiver. They did in fact trade up but ended up taking quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th pick. Everyone went crazy and now loves to spin the narrative that the Packers traded up for Jordan Love.

Maybe they did.

Or maybe they traded up for a player like Brandon Aiyuk, who they also liked. Locked On Packers host Peter Bukowski’s theory is that the Packers traded up for him, thinking the Vikings wouldn’t take another receiver. Then when the 49ers traded up in front of them and snagged Aiyuk, the Packers took the next best player on their board; and that was Jordan Love.

Let’s be honest, at the time, Aaron Rodgers was still good, but not what he used to be. And who knew he would go off and have an MVP-level season in 2020 as he did? If the Packers didn’t draft Love, would Rodgers have done as well as he did? As soon as Love was taken, former teammates were talking about how Rodgers was going to go off this season now to show the front office he was still the man.

Now that he has, would the Packers be open to keeping Rodgers and trading Jordan Love?

There has been a rumor circulating the internet about a possible trade between the Packers and the Patriots because a Lambeau Field custodian took a picture in an office.

The trade would look something like this:

Whether you believe the rumor or not, it begs the question. With Rodgers looking like he is going to be playing at a high level for a while longer, does this trade make sense?

The Packers would be moving up 14 spots and really just losing a fourth-round pick in draft capital. Granted, they would lose their backup quarterback and eventual heir, but we’ve all seen how that worked out in New England when the Pats drafted Jimmy Garoppolo and he never got a shot to play for them because Brady was still playing at a high level.

If the Packers were able to move up in the draft and get a high-level receiver or a cornerback like Jaycee Horn, I think this trade is definitely something the Packers should consider.

Another positive would arise if this trade were to go through. The media would finally stop talking about what’s going to happen in the future between the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. I think as a fan base, we are pretty tired of hearing what’s going to happen in the future with Rodgers. I think most fans are interested in whether or not the Packers can win it all this year. With Love out of the picture, Rodgers is the only option for the future.

Now, will this trade actually happen? Probably not. But the NFL world is slow right now and people need something to talk about.

The draft is less than 10 days away. I think we are all sick of mock drafts and are ready for the real thing. If the Packers make a splash like this on the first day of the draft, I think there will be a lot of excited fans out there.
