Packers: NFL.com believes it’s ‘postseason or bust’ for Green Bay

NFC runners-up two years running, the Green Bay Packers look to take that next step in the 2021 season.

The Packers, understandably, enter the new season among the favorites in the conference. They have a strong roster across the board and have gone 26-6 in the regular season over the past two years.

NFL.com’s Marc Sessler has ranked each NFC team into four categories. The second category is “postseason or bust”, which is where he puts the Packers along with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.

And it makes perfect sense. The Packers aren’t a team building for the future (Jordan Love pick aside) or building long term. If Green Bay doesn’t make the playoffs, this season can be considered a failure. This team is trying to bring home another Lombardi Trophy with Aaron Rodgers. Not even making the postseason can’t be considered an option.

In many ways, this has to be the year for the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers turns 38 in December and the team has done anything but commit to him long-term when it comes to his contract. Who knows when it could be Jordan Love’s time in Green Bay?

Maybe Rodgers will remain in Green Bay for the remainder of his career, but what if this is his last season with the team that drafted him?

The Packers have done a good job of keeping the core of their winning team together this offseason but they will face further salary cap difficulties next spring, making it harder to do so again.

With star players at multiple positions and Rodgers coming off his third MVP season, the time is now for Matt LaFleur’s team to take that next step. Green Bay is entering a huge 2021 season.

Forget postseason or bust. This year, it could well be Super Bowl or bust for the Green Bay Packers.
