Aaron Rodgers once said the San Francisco 49ers would regret not drafting him. Sixteen years later, it appears they may indeed regret letting him fall to the Green Bay Packers.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the 49ers “reached out to the Packers on Wednesday” about a potential trade for Rodgers but no offer was made. Pelissero added there’s a “zero percent chance” the Packers would trade Rodgers.

And it appears the 49ers may not be alone. According to Jay Glazer of FOX, a “few teams have called” over a possible trade.

Well, it seems GM Brian Gutekunst was being completely honest earlier this week when he said Rodgers will be the Packers’ starting quarterback for the “foreseeable future”. Coming off his third MVP season, it shows the team has absolutely no interest in moving on.

In theory, what would it actually take for Green Bay to listen to an offer?

Multiple first-round picks? The 49ers would surely need to part ways with the third overall pick in this year’s draft. Even then, it’s hard to see the Packers budging. They may well turn down any offer sent their way as they see Rodgers as too valuable.

It perhaps says more about the 49ers, who traded up to third overall, let’s not forget. Presumably, they moved up for a quarterback. So why, on the eve of selecting said quarterback, were they on the phone asking about Rodgers’ availability? Does this show they are uncertain with who they will pick in the draft?

The Packers’ stance remains the same. Rodgers is the starting quarterback and that’s the end of it. For how long? That’s anybody’s guess. But right now, Green Bay seems to have zero interest in even entertaining the idea of trading away the reigning NFL MVP.

And who can blame them?
