Packers 2021 Draft: Best-case scenarios for the 29th pick
By Cody Young
It’s officially draft week, and after a very long two months since the season ended, it’s finally here for the Green Bay Packers. The NFL Draft is an event that is full of speculation for months on end. All that speculation finally comes to an end this Thursday night as the Packers make their selection.
The Packers will be selecting 29th overall and to be honest, can go a lot of different ways. While there are some holes to fill, the Packers have what I consider to be a good roster. They can certainly use some help on defense but a playmaker on offense would also be a nice addition.
So in this article we’re going to be looking at what I consider to be some best-case scenarios for the Packers. These are going to be scenarios that have to be at least be somewhat realistic. Obviously, we would all love for someone like Patrick Surtain or Kyle Pitts but that is extremely unlikely.
So let’s go ahead and look at the first scenario.
A trade back might be a smart move for the Green Bay Packers
Scenario #1: Trading back
Now, I want to start by saying these aren’t necessarily in any type of order but there are options that I prefer more than others. Trading back isn’t one of my favorite options but it could make a lot of sense.
I must admit it would be a little disheartening to sit through the whole draft just to see the Packers trade back into the second round but this is exactly what they did in 2017. That year the Packers had a very late pick and elected to trade back to 33rd overall and select Kevin King.
Trading back makes a lot of sense because stockpiling picks is always a smart option. Plus picking so far back into the first round makes it pretty easy to trade out and let the board fall. Again, this wouldn’t be my first choice but it makes sense.
