Packers 2021 Draft: Best-case scenarios for the 29th pick
By Cody Young
A wide receiver would be a great option for the Packers
Scenario #2: Kadarius Toney at 29
People love to go on and on about how the Packers are in desperate need of a wide receiver while others like to say it’s not a need at all. I personally fall somewhere in the middle. I think an early WR would be a great decision but I don’t think it’s a must at 29.
I do think the Packers take at least one WR in this draft and I can very much see them taking more than one. The Packers will need to address the position sooner or later because they don’t have many under contract beyond 2021.
Davante Adams, Devin Funchess, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown are all upcoming free agents in some fashion. I fully expect the team to come to an agreement with Adams and I would also expect at least one more name from the above list to be back.
The shortage of depth at the position beyond this year is why I think Kadarius Toney could be a great choice. Toney is someone who has been mocked to Green Bay several times over the last few months.
The Packers need a wideout who can make things happen with the ball in their hands, plain and simple. I think Toney would fit into this role nicely. He can play the slot and be the motion guy which is something this offense loves. He is also someone who can possibly return kicks which is another major need of this team.
Playing next to Adams would be a great advantage for Toney because all of the attention would be on Adams. I also think Toney has the potential to turn into a legit number one target down the line for Green Bay.
