Packers 2021 Draft: Best-case scenarios for the 29th pick
By Cody Young
Christian Barmore is best-case scenario for Packers
Scenario #4: Christian Barmore
I said earlier that I didn’t have these in any type of order, however, all of that can be thrown out with this selection right here. Christian Barmore is 100 percent my “pound the table” choice for Thursday night.
If you have watched Packers games over the last two years, you would know that the middle of their defense is atrocious, especially up front. Some would argue that MLB is the bigger need but I disagree with that.
Barmore is still pretty young and might even be a little bit raw as a prospect but I think he can develop into a special player next to Kenny Clark on the interior. Barmore has been a hard prospect to predict, some see him as a top 15 player, while others think he will fall deep into the first or even early second round.
Some people also think that Barmore isn’t special and is just the best DT in a very weak class overall at the position, but I disagree with this. Barmore followed up an average 2019 with a great 2020 where he showed some real production.
In 2019 he was more of a run-stopper but in 2020 he showed he can get to the QB, registering the team lead with eight sacks. If Barmore is there, I fully expect Brian Gutekunst to have his eye on the player.
