Three moves Packers need to make following 2021 NFL Draft
2. Work out a contract extension with Davante Adams
Davante Adams is coming off a career-year. He caught a league-high 18 touchdowns, was named a first-team All-Pro, and put his name in the franchise single-season history books.
But Adams, like almost every wide receiver currently on the roster, has only one year remaining on his contract. The Packers can’t afford to let a player so important to this offense walk in free agency and should do everything possible to ensure his future is in Green Bay.
According to Over The Cap, Adams’ average salary ranks 18th among wide receivers in the NFL. For potentially the number one wide receiver in the league, he deserves a much bigger contract. Adams will become one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the league at some point in the next year, whether by signing an extension with the Packers or in free agency next offseason.
No matter whether it’s Aaron Rodgers or Jordan Love throwing him the football, it doesn’t matter. Adams is an All-Pro wide receiver and such an important part of this offense. Green Bay needs to get a contract extension worked out in the near future.
Getting a deal done soon could also help the team in the short term by creating some cap room, which could be used to sign a free agent at a position like inside linebacker.
