Packers: Three ways Aaron Rodgers situation can be solved
What if Rodgers retires?
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, retirement is a “serious consideration” for Rodgers unless this issue is “repaired to his liking”. That’s a pretty big statement and it leaves us with a lot of questions. How exactly would this be repaired to his liking? And would he actually sit at home and retire?
This would, without a doubt, be the worst-case scenario for everyone involved.
For Rodgers, it would mean he’s no longer playing football. Given his competitiveness and how often he’s talked about playing into his 40s, this surely wouldn’t be how he wants it to play out. Instead of chasing another Super Bowl in the final stretch of an all-time run of great quarterback play, this situation would cause an early end to his Hall of Fame career.
As Rapoport noted, Rodgers would also need to repay $11.5 million this year and the same number next year if he remained retired.
For the Packers, they’d lose their MVP. The same goes for the fans.
What would it mean for Green Bay? Well, either the Jordan Love era would need to start ahead of schedule, or if the Packers didn’t want to rush him into a starting role, they’d have to sign a free-agent quarterback and accept that a losing season was almost guaranteed.
Considering the talent on both sides of the ball the Packers have, this would be the worst-case scenario for everyone involved.
