Packers 53-man roster predictions following 2021 NFL Draft
Safeties (4)
Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Vernon Scott, Will Redmond
Along with the talent at cornerback, the Packers are also strong at safety. Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage remain the starters for the third straight season, forming one of the best duos at the position in football.
Both players finished inside the top three for the Packers’ defensive snaps last season. Amos had nine pass defenses and two interceptions, Savage 12 pass defenses and four interceptions. Savage made his biggest impact in the second half of the season. He’s another breakout candidate on defense for the Packers in 2021.
If there’s one concern at safety, it’s the depth behind the starting two. Green Bay has lost backup safety Raven Greene, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. The team will be hoping for a second-year jump from Vernon Scott, who barely played on defense in 2020 but was a contributor on special teams.
Similar to inside linebacker, I’d like to see the Packers sign a veteran safety over the summer to add some depth behind Amos and Savage.
Still, on paper, the Packers have an excellent secondary loaded with young talent. It could be one of the best defensive backfields in the NFL this year.
