Packers 53-man roster predictions following 2021 NFL Draft
Tight ends (4)
Robert Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, Jace Sternberger, Josiah Deguara
The tight end room remains the same for the Packers in 2021.
Robert Tonyan had a breakout season with 52 catches for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns. He lived up to his nickname of “Baby Kittle”. Tonyan stepped up as the number one tight end last season and will again be a key pass-catcher in the Packers’ offense.
Bringing back Marcedes Lewis made a ton of sense. Aaron Rodgers has had nothing but praise for his work as a blocker, and also a teammate. Lewis might not show up on the stat sheet too often but there’s no doubting what an important role he’s played in Green Bay’s offense since LaFleur became head coach two years ago.
Jace Sternberger hasn’t yet made the impact the Packers hoped when they drafted him in the third round in 2019. The hope is that he’ll make a jump in his third season. There’s a steep learning curve at tight end and let’s not forget that Tonyan’s production last year was his fourth in the NFL.
While listed as a tight end, returning Josiah Deguara will be all over the field. LaFleur loves him and got him involved immediately in his rookie season but he suffered a torn ACL. Whether he’s blocking or catching passes, expect to see a lot of Deguara in 2021.
