Packers added quality depth in middle of defense

Player(s) #3: Oren Burks and Ty Summers

Now, this may be cheating a little bit because I listed two players, however, I feel the same regarding both of them. Oren Burks and Ty Summers both have their limitations and seem like they won’t be more than special teams players.

The addition of Isiah McDuffie is what makes me feel this way. McDuffie was drafted in the sixth round and when healthy, was a force for Boston College on the defensive side of the ball. I think McDuffie has a real shot of overtaking their special teams’ snaps, as well as snaps on defense.

Looking at the two players, Oren Burks in particular looks like a complete waste of a third-round pick. Ty Summers, on the other hand, was a seventh-rounder who probably didn’t have high expectations at all.

Burks has had several chances to become something but unfortunately, just hasn’t panned out. Coming out of Vanderbilt, Burks had an interesting combination of size, speed, and power but was unable to take the next step.

Summers, as stated above, didn’t have very high expectations but he has also been unable to be anything more than a special teams player after his first two seasons. Both of these players have not panned out so far and adding McDuffie will only make it harder for them.
