Packers: Three players on notice after the 2021 NFL Draft
By Cody Young
Kevin King and Packers may finally part ways after 2021
Player #1: Kevin King
Kevin King has been one of the more criticized players on the Green Bay Packers roster over the last few years. Staying healthy and consistent play have been his two biggest downfalls over the course of his short career.
King was drafted 33rd overall in the 2017 Draft but has failed to live up to his hype so far. In 2019, King had a solid season and things looked like they were turning around but he seemed to regress in 2020 and it looked like he wouldn’t be re-signed following the season.
The Packers, not having much wiggle room with the cap, were able to come to an agreement with King on a one-year deal, making him a free agent yet again after 2021. The Packers decided to use their first draft selection on a CB who will probably end up replacing King.
Eric Stokes was taken 29th overall by Green Bay and he will be gunning for CB2 opposite of Jaire Alexander. Stokes has outstanding speed and brings a different aspect to King. Stokes is much more physical at the line of scrimmage and is a solid tackler, something King lacked.
However, I do think that King will start the year as CB2 but whether it be from health or poor play, I think Stokes has a good chance of overtaking King for the starting role.
