At this stage of the offseason, we don’t know what the future holds for Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported that Rodgers, unsurprisingly, wasn’t with the team for the start of OTAs on Monday.

Maybe Rodgers and the Packers will find a resolution in the coming weeks or months, but maybe they don’t. Your guess is as good as mine. But let’s imagine, for a moment, that Rodgers does return to Green Bay for the 2021 season.

He would be leading his team in another Super Bowl challenge but Rodgers could also set a new individual record.

Rodgers can set new Packers franchise record

If Rodgers never plays another snap for the Packers, he will finish his career in Green Bay with 412 touchdown passes. That’s currently good for second-most in Packers franchise history.

Only Brett Favre has more. Favre threw a total of 442 touchdown passes in 255 career games. Rodgers has played fewer games, 197. Add in a full 17-game regular season and Rodgers’ total would hit 214 games, still many fewer than Favre.

But he could break Favre’s franchise record in the next season.

Rodgers is only 30 touchdown passes away from tying Favre’s record. That’s more than achievable for Rodgers in one season. In 2020, he threw for a career-best 48 touchdown passes. He has thrown for 30 or more touchdowns in a season on seven occasions.

Rodgers will need longer to break Favre’s franchise record for passing yards. He’s a little over 10,000 yards behind Favre in that category. But if Rodgers signs a new deal and finishes his career with the Packers, he’ll likely go way beyond Favre’s record.

What’s even more incredible is not only that Rodgers can beat Favre’s TD record in fewer games, but also with significantly fewer interceptions. Favre threw 286 interceptions during his time in Green Bay. Rodgers is at just 89.

It’s entirely possible Rodgers could set a new franchise record for career touchdown passes before he’s even thrown his 100th interception.

However, this is only possible if Rodgers returns to Green Bay this year.
