2. Give Davante Adams a contract extension

It’s not just Rodgers the Packers should be willing to work out a new deal with, but also star wide receiver Davante Adams. Adams has one year remaining on his current contract.

Now, if the team is prepared to move on from Rodgers and begin the Jordan Love era, we shouldn’t just assume they’d re-sign Adams. Adams will turn 29 before he becomes a free agent next offseason. Let’s imagine for a moment that Love becomes the starting QB in 2021. Would the Packers sign Adams to a big new deal that would take him into his 30s, or start over with their new QB?

Maybe they would look to re-sign Adams, but it’s far from a guarantee with a young quarterback.

But if Rodgers returns, the Packers should absolutely do everything possible to extend Adams. If the goal becomes to win now and commit to Rodgers, part of that is ensuring his top wide receiver is still on the roster beyond the upcoming season.

It’s fair to say that Adams is the best receiver Rodgers has played with in the NFL. I can’t imagine a worse decision to make than commit to Rodgers for the long-term future then let his star receiver sign elsewhere next spring.
