While it’s rare for Aaron Rodgers to sit out of the Green Bay Packers‘ OTAs as he has done so far this year, it’s not a particularly big deal as these practices are voluntary.

But what will be notable is if he’s still not there next week when mandatory minicamp begins.

The three-day minicamp begins next Tuesday and runs from June 8-10.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, head coach Matt LaFleur provided no update on the Rodgers situation and also said he’s not sure whether the three-time MVP will attend next week’s minicamp.

“I’ve got nothing to update on that situation,” LaFleur said. “Yeah, I don’t know. We’ll see come Tuesday.”

It’s one thing to skip OTAs. Many veteran players do. But to not attend mandatory minicamp is a bigger deal, and one that could hurt Rodgers financially.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Rodgers could be fined up to $95,877 if he doesn’t attend minicamp. If that continues into training camp, he would be fined $50,000 a day. That would add up pretty quickly for every day missed.

Not only has Rodgers not been in attendance throughout OTAs so far, but many of the Packers’ veteran wide receivers also haven’t been there. According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Devin Funchess, and Equanimeous St. Brown all missed OTAs this week.

For everyone involved, we can hope this gets resolved before training camp. Even if Rodgers does return and play in 2021 but misses time in training camp, it would put the entire offense behind the eight ball when it comes to preparations for the regular season.

Less than a week away from the three-day mandatory minicamp, it remains unclear whether Rodgers will be attending. And for now at least, Matt LaFleur doesn’t seem to know either.
