Davante Adams has been consistently one of the best wide receivers in the league over the past few seasons, but he took his game to another level with the Green Bay Packers in 2020.
There are questions about who will be throwing passes to Adams this year, but the Packers still have their superstar wide receiver under contract for another season.
We continue our player-by-player preview series for the 2021 season.
Up next is the Packers’ All-Pro wide receiver.
2020 stats
Adams caught 115 passes for 1,374 yards and a league-high 18 touchdowns, setting career-bests in multiple categories.
2020 review
Unstoppable was the best word to describe Davante Adams in 2020.
Defensive backs had simply no answer for the Packers’ number one wide receiver, and Aaron Rodgers had no problem firing the ball his way regularly. A dominant duo, Adams was named a first-team All-Pro while Rodgers won his third league MVP award.
It was a historic season for Adams, who broke the Packers’ single-season record for receptions and tied the record for receiving touchdowns in a single season.
Will he make the roster?
Adams is a roster lock, although he is entering the final year of his contract. The Packers would be smart to work on a long-term deal before the start of the season.
What to expect in 2021
Three months out from the start of the regular season, it’s difficult to predict who Adams’ quarterback will be. We all hope it’s Rodgers, but it could just as easily be Jordan Love or Blake Bortles depending on how the situation with Rodgers plays out.
From Adams’ perspective, we should expect more of the same. He’s been so consistent in recent years with double-digit touchdown catches in four out of the past five seasons.
While Adams’ numbers could fall slightly if Rodgers doesn’t play, his individual performances won’t. He’ll still be beating number one cornerbacks regularly and will be his QB’s best friend, no matter who it is throwing the football.
Adams has also shown he can still produce when Rodgers isn’t out there. He caught 10 touchdowns in 2017, a season in which Rodgers only played seven times due to injury.
No matter who is at QB, we should expect another great year from Adams, who is searching for his fifth Pro Bowl selection in a row.
