Packers add future star to offensive line
Detroit Lions: OT Penei Sewell
With the defensive front addressed earlier on, I can turn my attention to the offense when stealing a player from the Lions.
Penei Sewell has never played an NFL snap but he’s going to be a special player for the Lions. Put him in Green Bay and the team would’ve found a long-term pass-protector for Aaron Rodgers (or Jordan Love).
According to Pro Football Focus, Sewell’s grade of 95.5 is their highest of any offensive tackle since 2014. It’s hardly surprising. And according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, an NFL head coach is already talking about the potential of Sewell making the Hall of Fame.
One NFL head coach called Lions’ first-round pick Penei Sewell “the one surefire Hall of Famer in this draft class.”

In the short term, Sewell could start at either tackle spot with either Elgton Jenkins or Billy Turner playing at the other. Once David Bakhtiari is healthy, the starting five could be Bakhtiari-Jenkins-Josh Myers-Turner-Sewell. That would be an incredible starting five and the likes of Lucas Patrick and Jon Runyan Jr. would be competing for spots.
A lot of the Packers’ success in 2020 came from the dominance of the offensive line. The Packers moved on from Rick Wagner this offseason and lost Pro Bowler Bryan Bulaga last year. In Sewell, they’d be getting a long-term starter who can be a star.
