Last year, Jaire Alexander’s breakout season helped the Green Bay Packers‘ secondary, and the defense overall, improve.

Make no mistake, Alexander had shown potential in his opening two seasons with the Packers, but it was in 2020 that he took the next step to become an All-Pro cornerback.

Take one look at the Packers’ roster and it’s clear they have a lot of talented young players. As a result, you can make a case for many of them potentially having breakout seasons in 2021.

Today, let’s look at five potential breakout stars for Green Bay this year.

Time is now for Packers tight end

5. TE Jace Sternberger

This is the season for Jace Sternberger.

Sternberger only made 12 receptions in his second year with the Packers, but tight ends often face a steep learning curve when entering the NFL. It can take many years for tight ends to develop, and you only have to look at Robert Tonyan for proof of that. Tonyan only had 14 career catches in three years prior to his breakout season in 2020.

There’s a reason why the Packers drafted Sternberger in the third round. He caught 48 passes for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns at Texas A&M in 2018. It’s clear he has the potential to become an excellent pass catcher at the next level.

It’s a make-or-break season for Sternberger, no doubt. He needs to take a big step forward this year. But if it all finally comes together, he could be a breakout star in Matt LaFleur’s offense.
